I was at the beach on Sunday. Nothing more relaxing than sketching an ear while stretched out under the sun. I've always had a thing for ears. Thank you, Allison and Janie, for the inspiration.

WORD art

Submission for Inspire Me Thursday.

WORD art is this week's submission to http://www.inspiremethursday.com/© 2006 redSAID! "WORD art", mixed media

This week's challenge was WORD art. What word is more appropriate when a momentary slip of the hand destroys a piece-in-progress beyond repair?? That instant of rage and passion becomes its own form of art.

This was a quick and fun experiment in mixed media. I coated a piece of watercolour paper in gesso for stability, and glued several layered sheets of decorative paper. I sanded the surface and used acrylic paint to stain the paper. I used india ink to paint in the type and spatter.

Thank you Janie for being my inspiration!

Night

Here is my "Night" submission for Illustration Friday.

illustration for night topic submitted to www.illustrationfriday.com© 2005 redSAID! "Night", acrylic on canvas

I used acrylic on canvas board; and I really like the way some of the under painting shows through, especially in the moon. I think it still needs more detail, but I am happy with the direction it is going.

I was inspired by folk art style and celestial theme. Originally, I planned to have the stars arch over the moon. One of my preliminary sketches looked like the stars were flying out of the moon's mouth. It looked pretty cool, so I went with it.
